Bi-Lo Raises $2,380 to Benefit Eliada

Funds raised through charity golf tournament will benefit children in need.

ASHEVILLE –November 2007  On Friday, November 16th, Bi-Lo Charities presented Eliada with a check for $2,380. The funds were raised through the Bi-Lo Charity Classic golf tournament, which is the largest single-day charity tournament in the country. Eliada will use this gift to provide vital mental health services for area children in need.

This year, Bi-Lo distributed more than $5.6 million raised through the tournament to non-profit organizations throughout the Southeast in communities where they operate supermarkets. Fifteen charities in the Asheville area were the recipient of more than $67,000 in grants.

“A passionate commitment to our community is one of core values at Bi-Lo,” said Bi-Lo president and CEO Brian Hotarek. “Our responsibility and dedication don’t end at the edge of a Bi-Lo parking lot. At Bi-Lo, we don’t give because it looks good. We give because it is good.”

On a local level, the Patton Avenue Bi-Lo has been a steadfast friend of Eliada for many years. Bi-Lo staff members have organized casual dress days, where individuals pay to dress in blue jeans while working, and donated the proceeds to Eliada. They have sponsored special events, held car washes, organized bake sales, and donated food for holiday meals.

According to Eliada CEO Mark Upright, “All of the students, families, and staff members at Eliada are extremely grateful to Bi-Lo. It is strong community connections like this one that have sustained Eliada for more than a century.”
