Eliada Winter Formal to be Held February 28

The second annual winter formal will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008.

ASHEVILLE – February 2008- On Thursday, February 28th, Eliada will host its second annual winter formal. The winter formal is an opportunity for Eliada students to experience a milestone of adolescence that they may otherwise miss. Young men and women will don evening gowns and tuxedos for a sit-down dinner and dance entirely supported through community donations.

Adolescents who have been removed from their homes or placed in alternative educational environments rarely experience the same rites of passage that their peers enjoy. According to Michelle Robinson of Eliada, “We all remember the excitement and anticipation of the big school dance. The winter formal is one way to give Eliada’s students those same fond memories. Getting all dressed up, having a nice meal, socializing with friends, and dancing; it truly does so much for their confidence and self-esteem.”

Eliada still needs help to create this special evening for the students. Decorations, centerpieces, corsages, floral arrangements, and more are needed. “Most urgently,” Robinson says, “we’re asking restaurants or individuals to provide food for the evening’s dinner. We’ve developed a menu and are asking people to consider sponsoring a side or main dish for about 100 people. Any help people in the community can provide would be so appreciated. Everyone who supports this special night is helping these children make a memory they will never forget.”

To volunteer, donate decorations, provide food, or give a cash donation, please call 828.254.5356 x 113 or email ccarnahan@eliada.org.
