Volunteers, Donors Honored at Annual Founder's Day Breakfast

ASHEVILLE –May 2009 – On Friday, May 15th, Eliada honored volunteers and donors at the annual Founder’s Day breakfast. The event was an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of board members, community volunteers, and corporate sponsors who have given of their time, talent, and resources over the last year.

The Staff Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Scott Thompson, Director of Eliada’s Residential Interns Seeking Excellence (RISE) program. Scott was recognized for his leadership in the RISE program, volunteerism at special events, and contributions to the therapeutic pet program.

The Community Volunteer of the Year was Karen Donatelli. Karen’s work in helping raise funds and awareness for Eliada was noted, as were her many years of board leadership and service. Karen’s contributions include planning and catering events to benefit Eliada, and helping to solicit sponsorships in the community, among many others.

The Corporate Supporter of the Year Award was given to Kris & Keri Wilson, founders of The Littlest Golfer. The Wilsons were chosen for their support of Eliada’s annual Charity Classic Golf Tournament, and for their service as volunteers in planning the tournament.

Stuart W/ AwardLastly, the recipient of the 2009 Founder’s Award was Stuart Weidie. The Founder’s Award is given annually to an individual who has contributed immeasurably toward Eliada’s mission of Helping Children Succeed. As the Immediate Past President of Eliada’s Board of Trustees, Stuart was instrumental in guiding Eliada through the strategic planning process, including the identification of Eliada’s core values. He is also a key supporter of Eliada’s many fundraising events, and has led his company, Blossman Gas, to do the same. Stuart’s family, friends, and colleagues were there to congratulate him, as were Dr. James Weilbaecher and Tim Kelley, past recipients of the Founder’s Award.

According to Eliada CEO Mark Upright, “All of the individuals honored today exemplify the spirit of Eliada. We are grateful for their contributions and their commitment to the children and families we serve. Without people like Scott Thompson, Karen Donatelli, Kris and Keri Wilson, and Stuart Weidie, Eliada simply would not exist.”
