Foster parenting is about changing lives one child at a time. It’s about providing unconditional love to a child in need. It is about believing and investing in the future. We hope you will consider making that investment.

It’s easy to qualify to become a foster parent. Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Have room for a child
  • Possess NC driver’s license and insurance coverage and be able to transport children
  • Consent to a federal and state background check
  • Want to work in partnership with Eliada
  • Be able to nurture a child’s development

What kind of support can I expect?

Training to become a foster parent is provided by Eliada staff who are dedicated and qualified professionals.  Eliada provides this training free of charge. These trainings are provided in a group setting or individually before a child is placed in your home.

Each foster parent works with a consultant who is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Eliada’s consultants provide individualized supervision and support to foster parents. Eliada’s professional staff of clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrist, nurses and other experts in the field are also available to foster families to assist with extra support.

Respite care providers are also available for foster families.

What are some common misconceptions about foster care?

MYTH: You can only foster to adopt

FACT: While fostering to adopt is an option we offer; it is not the only type of fostering. Other types include Respite, Short or Long Term, and Therapeutic Foster Care.

MYTH: Foster parents have to be in a heterosexual relationship

FACT: Foster families come in all shapes and sizes. One can foster regardless of gender, sexuality, age, or relationship status

MYTH: You have to own a house.

FACT: You don’t need to own a home; you just need space for a child.

MYTH: Getting licensed is too hard.

FACT: Getting licensed requires 30 hours of training and is a 4-6-month process start to finish. A licensing specialist is by your side the whole time.  Eliada offers both group and individual training to accommodate all schedules and needs.

MYTH: Foster families are unsupported.

FACT: Eliada’s Foster Care Consultants work with you throughout fostering and are available 24/7.
