Our Approach: Evidence-Based, Trauma-Informed Therapy

The Eliada Counseling Center recognizes that human relationships are important vehicles to change and therefore engage the client as a partner in that process; respecting their right to self-determination and striving to maintain their sense of dignity.

Our intake process will include a review of the previous biopsychosocial materials; which may include psychological evaluations, Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCA), psychiatric evaluations, hospital records, etc. Each client will participate in an intake evaluation, which may include completion of a CCA. From this information, therapy goals will be identified in alignment with Person Centered Plan (PCP) goals and will guide the client’s treatment while participating in the program.

Our licensed clinicians are experienced in working with children, teens, and families, including those involved in foster care or experiencing trauma. We use evidence-based therapies to support emotional and behavioral health.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

This evidence-based practice has been identified to be a useful approach for disorders that involve emotional dysregulation. This modality focuses on the development of skills related to emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

This evidence-based practice focuses on changing thought patterns and behaviors that are maladaptive. Individuals with depression and anxiety have found success with a CBT approach.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT)

This evidence-based practice is intended for individuals with a trauma history whose primary symptoms or behavioral reactions are related to trauma. Protocol components include psychoeducation, parenting skills, relaxation techniques, affective expression and regulation, cognitive coping and processing, trauma narrative, in vivo exposure, and sessions with the focus on enhancing personal safety.

Motvational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is an evidenced based model that is a form of collaborative conversation designed to strengthen a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. It addresses the common problem of ambivalence about change by paying particular attention to the language of change. It is regarded as a bestpractice model for eliciting internal motivation to change any behavior.

Equine Assisted Therapy

Eliada is home to twelve therapy horses, and we utilize the Eagala and ARCH models of mental health therapy incorporating the horses. Each session is attended by a treatment team, which consists of a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist, and our horses. Our program is ground-based, meaning we do not ride horses in session. Along with the support of experienced Equine Specialists, clients can progress towards treatment goals while participating in experiential therapy. Equine assisted therapy supports clients in fostering healthy relationships, exploration of safe boundaries, exploration of thoughts and feelings, promoting frustration tolerance, among other significant benefits.
